Hoビリのために英国障害者乗馬訓練協会(RDA)の開発したリハビリ・メソッドを採用。乗馬インストラクター養成学校はその付属施設。植樹は4月13日、ピスカリ公園の森で行われ､
英国大使館からマイク・シムズウィリアムズ科学技術担当官が参加しました。
Warashibe-en is a rehabilitation facility for mentally
disabled children and has a strong UK connection through exchange programme with
the Riding for the Disabled Association. The Green Alliance oak was planted on

由仁町 :ゆにガ－デン
ロンドンのキュー・ガーデンをモデルにして2001年にオープンした英国風庭園。｢植物は歳月をかけて育てるもの｣という理念から、子供たちの手でオークを植えて成長を見守る。植樹はみどりの日の4月29日に行われ、英国大使館のマリークレア・ジョイス商務官が参加｡
Yuni
Garden, Yuni-machi: The English style garden was opened in June 2001 with
the Kew Garden as a model. The plantation of the Green Alliance was attended by
Marie-Claire Joyce of the British Embassy.
中富良野町：ファーム富田ラベンダー園
富良野町のラベンダー園「ファーム富田」は12ヘクタールの花畑で、年間90万人の来園者がある。ラベンダーの栽培を通じて昔から英国との交流が盛んに行われている。植樹式は5月10日に行われ､ファーム富田の富田忠雄会長､富田均社長ら､中富良野町から四方昌夫町長､玉井洋一町議会議長､和田英一商工会会長､高野一敏観光協会会長､英国大使館から商務部の日比野香織商務官らが出席しました。
Farm
Tomita, Naka-Furanocho. The lavender garden, Farm Tomita, receives some
900,000 visitors a year and has had a lavender exchange with Britain for many
years.
大滝村：大滝わらしべ園敷地内
精神障害児のリハビリ施設。自然との共生を目指しており、かつて英国障害者乗馬訓練協会(RDA)の訓練師を招いて講習会を開いたこともある。植樹は5月11日に行われ、渡邊寛村長、英国大使館の鈴木万里子広報官らが出席しました｡

sister facility of the Osaka and Urakawamachi Warashibe-en to promote
rehabilitation by being with nature. They invited a trainer from Britain’s
Riding for the Disabled Association. Plantation in May.
砂川市 ：市内北光公園
北海道国際消防協会の主催。砂川市はナラ（オーク）の群生地帯で、明治時代にこれをインチ材に引いて英国へ輸出、家具や棺桶の材料に使われたりもした。三井物産の砂川木工場創業の由来がこれ。また北海道国際消防協会は英国の消防協会とは友好関係にあります。植樹は5月19日,菊谷勝利市長､嶋琢弘・北海道国際消防協会会長､英国大使館政治部のサイモン・ブラウン二等書記官らが参加して北光公園で行われました。
Hokkaido
International Fire Fighting Association, Sunagawa City. The Association has
had a friendship relations with the Commonwealth & Overseas Fire Fighting
Association. The British organisation presented in 2001 a replica of Big Ben on
the base of English oak to celebrate the Hokkaido Association’s 100th year
anniversary. Sunagawa was also once abundant of Nara trees and exported the tree
slices to Britain in the Meiji era. That is how Mitsui’s wood processing factory
was founded. The tree slices were used in Britain to make furniture and coffins!
Plantation in mid-May as part of the town festival.
札幌市 北海道大学構内
北海道日英協会による植樹。北大の学生・職員はもとより緑豊かなキャンパスを訪れる人々とともに日英交流を深めると同時に環境問題を考える機会を与えたいというのが参加の理由｡植樹式は5月20日､中村睦男・北大総長､大野公男・北海道日英協会会長､ゴマソール英国大使らが出席してクラーク会館のそばで行われました。

University, Sapporo City. Hokkaido Japan British Society (JBS) will be
planting the oak tree in the compound of Hokkaido University in order for the
students, staff and visitors to have opportunity to think about UK/Japan
relations and also the issue of the environmental protection.
札幌市 中島公園
札幌市役所主催の植樹。植樹は5月20日､市内の中島公園で行われ､札幌市の川瀬洋三環境局長､ゴマソール英国大使が参加しました。

帯広市市立柏小学校校庭
英国生まれのNPOの日本版、グラウンドワーク十勝の主催。子供たちの未来のためにグリーン・コミュニティを作る。植樹は5月24日、工藤誠志郎・柏小学校校長､十勝グランドワーク・トラスト・林光繁会長、英国大使館・新庄里美広報官らが出席して行われました。
This is a plantation by Tokachi Groundwork, an affiliate of
the UK-born NPO. They are involved in community development under the slogan of
"Green for Future Children". Plantation in the autumn.
函館市 旧イギリス領事館付近
1913年に再建され、79年には市の有形文化財に指定されたもの。現在では開港記念館として函館開港時から近代函館への歩みを紹介しています。函館日英協会の創立10周年を記念した植樹は8月16日に行われ、函館日英協会の高野洋蔵会長､英国大使館のスチュワート・ジャック公使らが参加｡
Old
British Consulate Building, Hakodate City. Hakodate is one of the towns where
the first British consulate offices were opened in the early Meiji era. The
English oak was planted on 16 August by Hakodate JBS near to the Old British
Consulate Building, now a harbour museum. The ceremony was attended by Stuart
Jack, Minister of the British Embassy.
余市町 余市宇宙記念館緑地広場
余市町は1988年以来スコットランドのイースト・ダンバートンシャーと姉妹都市関係を結んでおり、中学生を中心に交流が進められています。植樹式は9月7日､余市宇記念館前で行われ、ニール・フック英国総領事夫妻らが参加しました。
The town has had a sister city arrangement since 1988 with East Dumbertonshire,
Scotland, and has a youth exchange programme mainly by junior high students.
The oak tree will be planted on the Rita Road to commemorate a Scottish
lady, Rita, who was married to Masataka Taketsuru of Nikka Whisky.
旭川市老人福祉施設敬生園敷地内
特別養護老人ホーム｢敬生園｣
旭川日英協会10周年記念の植樹。植樹は9月16日､ゴマソール英国大使らが参加。
The tree was planted in the compound
of the Keiseien old people's home to coincide with the 10th anniversary of
Asahikawa Japan British Society.
白糠町 白糠瑞英寺境内
瑞英寺
キナシベツ湿原を愛する会が主催。同会では毎年、英国の自然保護ボランティア組織British Trust for Conservation
Volunteersからのボランティアを招いて自然保護活動を行いながら地元の人々との交流を行っています。植樹先は瑞英寺。植樹式は9月17日に行われ､英国大使館の大森宏子広報官が参加。
当別町 道民の森
北海道庁の主催による植樹。植樹は9月21日にミズナラのドングリを植える行事とともに行いました。
穂別町 ほべつ道民の森
道民の森
19世紀の終わりから20世紀の始めにかけてヨーロッパや中国に｢ホベツ･オーク｣と呼ばれるナラ材を輸出。2002年は開町90年､町制施行40年でもあり林業振興のシンボルとして参加。植樹は｢ほべつ道民の森｣で。
This
is an about 720,000 square metre forest park where outdoor museum and flower
park are enjoyed by local citizens. The town used to export in 1902-1909 a lot
of local Nara (Japanese oak) to Europe including Britain. The Green Alliance oak
tree will be planted to celebrate in 2002 the town’s 90th anniversary and as a
symbol to promote the local timber industry.

弘前東工業高校 植樹を機に英国との交流を深めるきっかけにする。植樹は3月。
AOMORI-KEN: Yokouchi Water Purification Plant, Aomri City. The plant started
its operation in 1909 to provide the "Japan's best city water"
(according to the Ministry of Welfare). Aomori citizens have been planting
Buna-trees to protect natural environment of the area.
青森市：モヤヒルズ
青森市と英国の友好関係の印として総合リクリエーション施設、モヤヒルズに植樹。植樹式は9月7日に行われ､英国大使館の鈴木万里子広報官らが出 席しました。
AOMORI-KEN: Moya Hills Recreation Centre, Aomori City. The northern most city in Honshu planted the tree in the compound of the city’s recreation centre to promote further the friendship tie with UK. Plantation in September as a part of the City Carnival.
青森市：横内浄水場
横内浄水場は1909年に給水を開始したという歴史があり、「日本一おいしい水道水」を守るために市民とともに植林事業を展開しています。オークの植樹もその一環。

秋田県秋田市：県立秋田中央高校

AKITA-KEN: Akita Chuo High School, Akita City. The Green Alliance plantation
was undertaken as one of the students' association's activities.
岩手県岩手町：町立石神の丘美術館
岩手日英協会と岩手町の共同主催。石神の丘美術館は英国人のデザイナーが設計した建物。植樹式は10月12日に行われ、英国大使館の春海二郎広報官、岩手町自然愛護少年団らも参加しました。

宮城県村田町
英国のバックリーと交流を続けて13年。オークは3月24日、バックリーからアラン・ラシュトン夫妻を迎えて町内の城山公園に植えられました。
MIYAGI-KEN. Muratamachi has had friendship relations with Buckley, England,
for the past 13 years.
宮城県仙台市：greenland.jp
greenland.jpは街の中で伐採される運命にある樹木を都会の森作りをしているボランティア・グループ。6月2日、仙台市内にある庭園ミュージアムの中の「子供の庭」に植樹。
MIYAGI-KEN greenland.jp: Sendai City. greenland jp is a Sendai-based volunteer
group who is aimed to make urban forest by using trees about to be cut
down. They are planning to plant the Green Alliance oak tree in the Children’s
section of the greenland garden museum, so that children will be able to
think about issues of the environment and international friendship. Sendai
is known as the Town of Trees.
山形県山形市：オーヌマホテル庭園
このホテルの庭園は山形市民がいつでも楽しめるように公開されています。植樹は4月4日､英国人の庭園デザイナー､マシュー・ディキンソン氏､山本幹雄･山形英国友好協会副会長らが参加して行われました。
Onuma Hotel Garden, Yamagata City. The garden is open and designed for the local citizens to enjoy and the oak tree was planted on 4 April as a symbol for the friendship of the town and UK. Matthew Dickinson, a British garden designer, and Mikio Yamamoto, Vice Chairman of Yamagata/UK Friendship Association attended the ceremony.
山形県南陽市：ハイジア･パ－ク
南陽市は明治の頃英国人旅行家、イザベラ・バードが立ち寄りその美しさを「東洋のアルカディア」と彼女の旅行記に記したことで知られており、それにふさわしい自然を大切にした町作りと地域の活性化を推進中。植樹は4月1日。
YAMAGATA-KEN: Nanyo City, Yamagata-ken. The town was visited by an English travel writer, Isabela Bird, about 100 years ago. Bird praised natural beauty of the town in her travel diary. The town still remembers her contribution to the town's being known to the Western countries
山形県大江町
大江町「みどりの少年団」活動を通じて子供たちに森林保護の大切さを教えており、イングリッシュ・オークの植樹を通じて英国についても知る機会を与えたい。植樹場所は大山自然公園。9日、ハイジアパーク南陽で行われ、英国大使館の昆和子商務官が参加｡
Oemachi, Yamagata-ken. Oemachi encourages children to think about the importance of forestry (their main industry) through tree planting activities of Green Children Group. The town would like children to get to know about UK through the Green Alliance.
山形県寒河江市
寒河江市が主催。英国生まれのNPOの日本版である(財)日本グラウンドワーク協会と共同で開く。グラウンドワークは企業・行政・市民が一体となったコミュニティ作りを目指している組織。日英グリーン同盟には｢いま・そして・未来のこどもたちへ：一本の木から広げるグリーン・コミュニティ｣というキャッチフレーズで参加します。
Sagae City, Yamagata-ken. Sagae Branch of the UK-born NPO, Groundwork Japan,
will participate in the Green Alliance to create "green community"
for next generation.
山形県東置賜郡川西町：介護老人施設「かがやきの丘」
川西町は英国人旅行家、イザベラ・バードがその著書を通じて紹介している。かがやきの丘は地域の老人を地元の若者が世話をしている施設として知られている。日英グリーン同盟の植樹活動を通じて「環境」という地球規模の問題を語り合いながら地域の連帯を生むことが期待されている。
Kagayaki Day Centre, Kawanishi-machi, Yamagata-ken. The day centre facility
for the old people encourages local youth to be involved in volunteer activities
and the tree planting is expected to involve local school children.
福島県会津高田町：介護老人保健施設グリーンケアハイツ
この施設は、未来の子供たちのために開かれた会津高田町体験農場の一角にあります。4月17日に地域交流・老人と子供のふれあいの一環としてオークを植樹。大使館から春海二郎・広報担当が参加。

福島県双葉郡楢葉町：Jヴィレッジ
サッカーのナショナルトレーニングセンター。ワールドカップではアルゼンチン･チームのキャンプ地。Jヴィレッジというネーミングは英国サッカー界の重鎮、サー・ボビー・チャールトンも参加して決定されたという経緯がある。植樹は4月20日に行われ、英国大使館職員や横浜の愛好家チームとの親善試合も開催。
J-Village, Naraha Village, Fukushima-ken. J-Village is a national football
training centre. While Sir Bobby Charlton was involved in naming the facility
when it was opened, the centre will be used by the Argentine team as the
training camp for the World Cup 2002.
福島県南会津郡伊南村
英国大使館の和太鼓チームとの交流を行っている村で、オークの植樹をきっかけに英国との交流を深めたいというのが参加の理由。植樹は8月3日に行われ､英国大使館の和太鼓チームが参加しました。
福島県会津坂下町
この町では英国のBungayと名前が似ているということで交流を続けています。イングリッシュオークは8月31日に植えられました。
Aizu Bangei, Fukushima-ken. The town has a sister city arrangement with
Bungay, England.
福島県白河市：JR東日本総合研修センター
英国は鉄道発祥の地であり、JRも鉄道を通じて交流が深ｸ､グリーン同盟への参加を通じてこれをさらに発展させようというのが目的。植樹式は9月6日､ＪＲ東日本社長､成井英夫･白河市長､ゴマソール英国大使らが参加して行われました。
JR East Training Centre, Shirakawa City, Fukushima-ken. JR East is intending to plant the oak tree in their training facility to commemorate the UK/Japan railway connection since construction of Japan's first railway between Shimbashi and Yokohama by Edmund Morrel, a British engineer.
福島県相馬郡新地町：尚英中学
新地町では子供たちの国際交流活動には力を入れており、これから英国との交流も行いたいというのが参加の理由。植樹式は9月13日に行われ、英国大使館のマラ・マイヤーズ二等書記官らが参加しました。
Shinchi Primary School, Shinchi-machi, Fukushima-ken. The town has population of 9,000 and encourages local youth for international exchange. The English oak was planted as a symbol of internationalisation of the town.
福島県岩瀬郡天栄村：ブリティッシュ・ヒルズ
英国風テーマパーク。マナハウス、パブ、ゲストハウスなどいずれも古き良き時代の英国を思わせる。英会話を始めとする教育施設としても使われています。植樹式は10月25日にゴマソール大使を始めとする英国大使館のスタッフが参加して行われました。
British Hills, Ten-ei Village, Fukushima-ken. An English-style leisure
facility in a huge 73,000-tsubo land: more than seven times as big as the
Embassy compound. Manor houses, pub, guest house etc are all there to show
“good old Britain”.

栃木県日光市
世界遺産である｢日光の社寺｣の付近に植樹。日光市の中禅寺湖畔には英国大使館の別荘もあり、英国とはその意味で長いお付き合いです。日光市交流促進センター前の植樹式は5月17日に行われ、斎藤隆男日光市長､ゴマソール英国大使夫妻らが参加しました。
Nikko City, Tochigi-ken. Nikko is well known for its shrines and temples
of the World Heritage and also known for the beautiful Chuzenjiko lake
where the British Embassy villa is located. The Green Alliance oak will
be planted near to the World Heritage shrines and temples.
栃木県茂木町：ビーパルランド茂木
1996年にオープンしたアウトドアマガジン「Be-Pal」の読者を中心にネイチャー観察やエコライフを実体験する2万2000平米の土地。英国生まれのオークも読者諸氏に大事に育てられることでしょう。
Be-Pal Land, Motegimachi, Tochigi-ken. Be-Pal Land was opened in 1996 by
Shogakkan Publishing as nature observation facility for the readers of
the very popular Be-Pal magazine.
茨城県水戸市
水戸市内にある市立七ツ洞公園は英国人のデザイナーによって設計されたもの。植樹は3月16日に行われました。
Nanatsudo Park, Mito City, Ibaragi-ken. The municipal Nanatudo Park was designed by a British landscape designer. The Green Alliance plantation is taking place in mid-March involving local school children.
茨城県日立市･日立第一高等学校
2003年から英国のパブリックスクール､Royal Russell Schoolと国際交流をスタートさせることからそれを記念しての参加です。
群馬県高崎市：ジョージアンハウス1997
ジョージアンハウス1997は18-19世紀の英国をテーマに建設したもので、2002年12月には英国の建築家がデザインした英国邸宅も完成の予定。
The Georgean House 1997, Takasaki City, Gunma-ken. A commercial facility
of the English style and the year of 2002 will see a house designed by
a British architect.
群馬県高山村
高山村には公開型としては日本最大の望遠鏡(口径150cm)のを備えた天文台があり、自然環境の保護に力を入れています。またこの村には日本で初めてスコットランドの古城を移築・復元したテーマパーク｢大理石村・ロックハート城｣もあります。また子供たちの手で老人介護施設｢りんどうの里｣にオークを植えて社会活動の一環とするという計画も。りんどうの里の植樹は開設1周年を記念して4月2日に、高山村とロックハート城主催の植樹式はみどりの日の4月29日に行われました。

Three oaks in three different locations. Rindo-no-sato Day Centre for the Aged (2 April), the Marble Village Lockheart Castle (29 April) and the Takayama Highland Park (29 April). Stewart Jack, Minister of the British Embassy, attended the latter two with his wife.
群馬県粕川村サンデンフォレスト
｢自然を破壊しない建設方法｣を採用した新工場の完成を記念しての植樹。敷地の一部をオープンエリアとして普通の人が自由に散歩できる道になっています。植樹は5月21日。英国大使館科学技術部のブライアン・フェラーが参加しました。
Sanden Forest, Kasuukawa-mura, Gunma-ken. A unique project by Sanden Company
to make an "ecop-friendly" company plant including footpath area
to be enjoyed by the local people. The company has had a UK office for
many years.
群馬県宮城村：ぐんまフラワーパーク
2002年で開園10周年を迎えるのを機会に英国王立園芸協会との連携を強化することになりました。英国生まれのオークは6月15日に植樹され、英国・ウィズリーガーデンのジム・ガーデナー園長、英国大使館の新庄里美広報官らが参加しました。
Gunma Flower Park, Miyagi-mura, Gunma-ken. The park will be celebrating
its 10th anniversary in 2002 and strengthening its relations with Britain's
Royal Horticultural Society.
埼玉県鴻巣市立赤見台第一小学校
鴻巣市では毎年英国から英語の教員（ALT）を迎えており子供たちが歌や踊りなどを通じて英国文化に触れている。イングリッシュ・オークとともに子供たちも大きく成長して欲しい。植樹日は2月2日。
Akamidai Daiichi Primary School, Konosu City, Saitama-ken. Konosu City
has actively accepted British ALTs and the town’s children have been encouraged
to learn about British culture through singing and dancing.
埼玉県羽生市立西中学
羽生市では毎年英国から英語の教員(ALT)を迎えて英語学習の充実を図っているほか、中学生をヨーロッパに派遣することも行っています。オークの植樹は2月4日。
Nishi Junior High School, Hanyu City, Saitama-ken. Hanyu City has had British
ALTs every year and also send junior high students to Europe to encourage
them to be in touch with European culture.
埼玉県越谷市立中央中学
越谷市では毎年、英国から英語の教員(ALT)を迎えています。植樹は3月6日、3年生全員が参加して行われました。
Chuo Junior High School, Koshigaya City, Saitama-ken. Koshigaya City has had British ALTs every year and junior high schools and primary schools in the town have had opportunities to be in touch with British culture.
埼玉県立浦和高校
浦和高校は英国のホイットギフト・スクールと姉妹校提携を結んで交流を続けています。植樹は3月15日に行われました。
Kenritsu-Urawa High School, Saitama City, Saitama-ken. Urawa High School
has had an exchange programme with Britain’s Whitgift School for the past
six years. Plantation took place on 15 March.
埼玉県立川越女子高校
日英グリーン同盟への参加を機会に英国との関係を深めたいというのが参加の理由。植樹は3月28日に行われました。
Kawagoe Girls High School, Saitama-ken. An e-link participant.. Kawagoe is one of the major towns in Saitama-ken and is known to be a Small Edo with traditional street scenes.
埼玉県志木市：細田学園高校
毎年ウェールズのクライスト・カレッジで夏の英語研修を行っているほかイートン・カレッジの聖歌隊を招いてコンサートを行ったこともある。植樹は4月29日に英国大使館のスーザン木下広報部長が参加して行われました。
Hosoda Gakuen High School, Shiki City, Saitama-ken. This school sends students
to Christ College in Wales for the summer schooling and also has invited
Eton’s choir. Plantation ceremony on 29 April. Embassy attendant: Susan
Kinoshita of Press & Public Affairs.
埼玉県杉戸町：泉小学校
杉戸町には英国からの英語補助教員（ALT）がおり、泉小学校にも度々来校して英国の文化について学ぶ機会を与えています。泉小学校はまた2001年度より2年間、国際理解教育の研究委嘱を受け、児童の国際理解の推進に取り組んでいます。オークの木もその研究活動の一環として受け入れることになりました。植樹式は5月24日に行われ､英国大使館からはスーザン木下が参加。
Izumi Primary School, Sugito-machi, Saitama-ken. Sugito Primary School
has had frequent visits by British ALTs and children are now all familiar
with British culture. The school has also been designated as a test school
for children’s internationalisation and would like to accept the English
oak as one of the school’s activities of internationalisation.
埼玉県立大宮ろう学校
オークの植樹を機会に英国と日本の関係、環境問題などに関心を高めたいというのが参加の理由。植樹式は6月11日､英国大使館のショーナ・クーパー､中村啓子ら参加して行われました。
Omiya Deaf School, Saitama City, Saitama-ken. The school would like their
students to take this opportunity to think about UK-Japan friendship and
the issue of the environment.
埼玉県入間郡名栗村
名栗村は総面積の94%が森林で、村全体が県立公園に指定されていますが、山林の殆どが山の斜面に植えられた杉の木で、木の下に人が集うということができません。オークを植えて｢人が集える木｣を増やすキッカケにしたいとしています。

埼玉県草加市
上野学園のグラウンドでは毎年、スコットランドの体育祭ともいえるHighland Gamesが開かれています。2002年の大会で20周年を迎えました。
埼玉県狭山市･東京ゴルフ倶楽部
大正３年に発足した日本最古のゴルフ･クラブの一つ｡大正１１年にウェールズ皇太子(エドワード８世)が来場になり、摂政宮殿下(昭和天皇)と親善ゴルフをされたという歴史もあり、現在でもプリンス・オブ・ウェールズ杯の競技を続けています。
Tokyo Golf Club, Sayama City, Saitama-ken. Established in the early 20th
century, this is one of the oldest golf courses in Japan with the history
of the then Prince of Wales came to play the game and presented the Prince
of Wales Cup which is still kept. The club also organises “Diplomatic Golf
Cempetition” where the current ambassador once participated.
埼玉県さいたま市・埼玉スタジアム2002公園

千葉県千葉市：千葉明徳高校
この学校が取組んでいる｢グリーン化と巨樹の森200年計画｣の一つとしてイングリッシュオークを植え、自然保護・自然体験教育の一環とします。植樹は2月18日に行われ大使館よりジャック公使が出席。
CHIBA-KEN: Meitoku High School, Chiba City. The school is undertaking nature observation education through the theme of "200 Years of Giant Trees". The Green Alliance oak was planted on 18 February where Stewart Jack, Minister of the British Embassy, attended.
千葉県夷隅郡大多喜町：ハーブアイランド
このガーデンでは楠やシナモンが育てられ、訪れる人々に「ほっとした空間」を提供することを目指しています。イングリッシュ・オークは3月24日(日曜日)に行われました。
CHIBA-KEN: Herb Island, Otaki-machi. The privately operated garden is designed to provide the visitor with “space for relaxation”. Plantation on 24 March.
千葉県丸山町：シェイクスピア・カントリー・パーク
丸山町には英国をテーマにした公園（シェイクスピア・カントリー・パーク）があり、植樹は4月23日にシェイクスピア祭とパーク5周年記念祭の一環として行われました。
CHIBA-KEN: Shakespeare Country Park, Maruyama-machi. The town will hold the Shakespeare Festival in a theme park, Shakespeare Country Park, on 23 April 2002. The Green Alliance plantation will take place in conjunction with this festival.
東京都千代田区：駐日英国大使館
英国大使館の敷地には1975年に国賓として日本を訪問されたエリザベス女王が植えたオークの木があります。植樹は1月30日。川口順子環境大臣(当時)、ＣＷニコル氏、沖縄・北谷町の小学生、北海道帯広市立柏小学校の校長先生らを招いて行われました。日英グリーン同盟の植樹第一号です。
TOKYO: British Embassy, Chiyoda-ku. An English oak was planted in May 1975 by HM the Queen in the Embassy’s compound. The Green Alliance oak tree was planted on 30 January. Attendants were: Yoriko Kawaguchi, then Minister for the Environment, CW Nicol, an Okinawa school boy, a headmaster from Hokkaido and Sir Stephen Gomersall, Ambassador.

議会制民主主義についての一般の認識を深めるべく創立されたこの記念館への植樹は日英議員連盟の主催によって2月5日に行われました。

of Parliamentary Democracy took place on 5 February and was attended by
representatives the UK/Japan Parliamentary League.
東京都足立区：足立学園高校

through their summer schooling at Rugby School and Christ College.

TOKYO: Itabashi-ku has been actively involved in the environmental protection
since 1993 when the urban ecology scheme “Ecopolis Itabashi” was launched.
The ward is also known to pursue the issue of urban ecology with NPO organisations
and to involve its citizens in making the ward better place to live. The
Green Alliance tree was planted in a community garden done by an NPO called
Harvest Club.

2002 年で創設110周年を迎えた静嘉堂には岩崎弥之助､岩崎小弥太男爵によって20万冊の古典書籍､5000点の古美術などが収蔵されています。岩崎小弥太は英国にも留学するなどしており、英国との繋がりには深いものがあります。
東京都武蔵野市･成蹊学園
創立者の岩崎小弥太が英国のパブリックスクールを範として創立した学園。今回の植樹は成蹊小学校の第27回卒業生が卒業後60年を記念して行ったものです。
神奈川県横浜市：保土ヶ谷公園サッカー場
保土ヶ谷公園はワールドカップの公式練習場。ワールドカップ開催の記念として2月7日に植樹されました。

Park managed by Kanagawa Prefecture was designated as an official practice
field of the World Cup 2002. The Oak tree was planted on 7 February.
神奈川県愛川町：三増総合運動公園
サッカーを通じての日英交流に力を入れる。９８年には英国サッカーフェスティバルを開催、英国大使館チームとも対戦するなどしている。3月19日、山田登美夫町長、英国大使館のサイモン・コリア一等書記官らが参加、三増公園陸上競技場に植樹されました。
KANAGAWA-KEN: Aikawa-machi. The town encourages sport-oriented exchange
and had British Football Festival in 1998. Plantation took place on 19
March in the town’s Mitsumasu Athletic Field. Embassy attendant: Simon

神奈川県鎌倉市：鶴岡八幡宮
鎌倉市には昔から英国大使館のスタッフのための日本語学校があり、数多くの外交官が鎌倉の町で日本語を勉強しています。また鶴岡八幡宮には、明治１６年７月２３日に横浜山手７０番館に住む英国人「ジエーチ」「ブルーク」という人物によってヒマラヤ杉の苗木が奉納されたという記録も残っています。植樹は5月24日に境内で行われ､吉田茂穂宮司、ゴマソール英国大使､英国大使館の日本語学校の学生､それに鶴岡幼稚園の園児らが参加して行われました。
KANAGAWA-KEN: Tsurugaoka Shrine, Kamakura City. British Embassy has had
its Japanese language training school in Kamukura for many years. The English
oak was planted in the compound of Tsurugaoka Shrine, one of the most famous
shrines in the town.
神奈川県横浜市港北区：慶應義塾日吉キャンパス
明治の頃からの慶應義塾と英国の深い関係を記念した植樹。植樹式は7月17日に慶應義塾の三田キャンパスで行われ、英国のジャック・ストロー外相､スティーブン・ゴマソール駐日英国大使､安西祐一郎学長らが参加しました。その後オークは日吉キャンパスに移されました。
神奈川県横浜市旭区･程ケ谷カントリー倶楽部
永年にわたって会員と各国大使がDiplomatic Corps Golf Committee)を通じて交流しており､歴代の英国大使もこれに参加しています。植樹は9月16日にゴマソール英国大使らが参加して行われました。
神奈川県横浜市保土ヶ谷区：British Industry Centre
このセンターは日本で事業を行う英国企業の拠点となっています。植樹は10月3日に行われ､野村不動産､英国大使館､英国商業会議所の代表らが参加。
KANAGAWA-KEN: British Industry Centre, Yokohama City. The business centre was opened by Prime Minister Blair in 1998 for British companies to do business in the Japanese market.
神奈川県横浜市中区：本牧山頂公園
本牧は地域開発の理念として「国際性」をうたっており、12000人の外国人（うち英国人600）が暮らすなど、この地域は昔から外国との交流が盛ん。植樹を機に英国との交流を更に深めたい。

had traditionally many foreign residents: 12,000 foreigners including some

平和記念公園は第二次世界大戦中の捕虜収容所（英国人捕虜も含む）跡地に建設され上越市民による募金によって造成されました。2000年8月には展示館も開設されています。植樹は7月13日に行われ、英国大使館のコリン・ロバーツ政治参事官らが参加しました。
NIIGATA-KEN: Peace Park, Joetsu City. The municipal Peace Park was made
on the site where a camp for the prisoners of the war used to exist with
British as well as other foreign prisoners. The Peace Park was made by
the citizen's donations and a related museum was also opened in 2000.
新潟県中魚沼郡津南町：ケアハウス・リバーサイドみさと
オークの木を植えることを通じて地元コミュニティとの交流を促進。植樹式は8月10日に行われ､英国大使館から新庄里美広報官が参加。
NIIGATA-KEN: Day Centres "Misato-en" and "Riverside Misato", Tsunanmachi. The two day centres planted jointly the tree as a community activity.

下部はホタルの乱舞で有名。オークを植えることで森林保存と自然保護の大切さを訴える記念とする。植樹は3月17日、一色ホタル会館前で行われ、一色ホタル保存会の依田克己会長､英国大使館のカミラ・ロバーツ一等書記官らが参加しました。
YAMANASHI-KEN: Shimobecho. Shimobe-cho is famous for firefly in early summer.
The Green Alliance plantation took place on 17 March in front of the Firefly
Centre. Katsumi Yoda, Chairman of the Firefly Conservation Society, and
Camilla Roberts of the Commercial Section attended the ceremony.
山梨県甲府市：山梨学院大学キャンパス
2001年に英国で日本文化を紹介するJAPAN 2001が開かれた時に行なわれた｢国際交流と和解の森｣計画に賛同・協力した経緯があり、日英グリーン同盟への参加を通じて英国や英国人への理解と共感を深めるための拠点となりたいといのが、参加の理由。植樹式は5月23日に行われ、英国大使館からコリン・ロバーツ政治参事官が参加しました。

長野県上田市：川辺小学校
障害児学級にも熱心に取り組んでいる学校。3月4日に植樹式が行われ、ゴマソール英国大使夫妻が出席、障害のある子供たちが学ぶ｢なかよし学級｣の児童10人が参加。
NAGANO-KEN: Kawabe Primary School, Ueda City. The school is known for “Nakayoshi Gakkyu” (a mingling classroom between disabled and ordinary children). The Green Alliance oak was planted on 4 March by the children of Nakayoshi Gakkyu together with Ambassador Gomersall and his wife.
長野県北佐久郡北御牧中学校
人口約3,700人の農村。イングリッシュ・オークを植えるのは2001年に改築した地元の北御牧村中学の校庭。植樹式は3月15日､中学3年生全員が参加して行われました。校舎が改築されて初めての卒業生です。
NAGANO-KEN: Kitamimak-mura. The farming village with the population of
3,700. The English oak was planted on 15 March in the compound of Kitamimaki
Junior High School.
長野県飯島町
人口約5,500人。イングリッシュ・オークの植樹を機会に英国との交流を促進したり、子供たちに自然保護の大切さを教えたい。植樹は3月20日、町役場前庭で行われ、熊崎安二町長、英国大使館の新庄里美・広報担当官、飯島保育園の年長児37人らが参加。
NAGANO-KEN: Iijima-machi. The farming town (population: 5,500) wanted to encourage its people to know more about UK and school children to learn about the importance of nature conservation. Plantation took place on 20 March and was attended by Yasuji Kumazaki, Mayor, Satomi Shinjo of the British Embassy and 37 Iijima-machi nursery school.
長野県南安曇郡安曇村
日本に西洋式の登山を紹介するとともに日本アルプスを紹介したウォルター・ウェストンの貢献を記念して毎年上高地でウェストン祭を開催している。オークは4月1日､役場駐車場広場に植えられました。
NAGANO-KEN: Azumi-mura. The village is located around the beautiful Nihon
Alps which is said to be found by a British missionary, Walter Weston.
The town has the annual Weston Festival to open the mountaineering season.
長野県飯田市
約100年前に英国人宣教師、ウォルター・ウェストンが天竜舟下りを体験、激賞し英国でも紹介された。毎年4月に天竜川ウェストン祭を開催。植樹は4月7日、飯田市時又港で行われ、田中秀典・飯田市長､英国大使館のマラ・マイヤーズ二等書記官らが参加しました。
NAGANO-KEN: Iida City. A British missionary, Walter Weston, visited the
town about 100 years ago and enjoyed the rapid shooting on the famous Tenryu
River. Weston wrote about the experience in his book. The Green Alliance
plantation took place on 7 April. Attendants included Hidenori Tanaka,
Mayor, and Mara Myers, Political Section of the British Embassy.
長野県下伊那郡平谷村
南信州の高原地帯にあり、人口650人。長野県内で一番小さな村。村の96･7%を森林が占める。植樹は4月24日に行われました。
NAGANO-KEN: Hiraya-mura. The village is located in the southern part of
Nagano-ken and claims to be the smallest village in the prefecture (population:
650). 96.7% of the land area is covered by forest. The English oak was
planted on 24 April.
長野県軽井沢町
98年の長野冬季五輪（カーリング）を記念する国際大会を毎年開催しており英国チームも参加しています。また保養地としての軽井沢を見出したカナダ人宣教師アレキサンダー・クロフト・ショーは英国聖公会の牧師でもありました。植樹は4月29日、町立軽井沢病院前で行われ、佐藤雅義町長､岩井征太郎町議会議長らが参加しました。
NAGANO-KEN: Olympic Forest, Karuizawa. Karuizawa holds the annual International
Carling Championship to commemorate the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. British
team is a regular participant in the game. The Green Alliance oak will
be planted in the Olympic Forest. The town is said to have been developed
as an “international resort” by a Canadian missionary of Anglican Church.
長野県伊那市
環境緑化推進のために毎年行われている長野県としての植樹祭が伊那市で行われ、日英グリーン同盟の趣旨に賛同して県としてオークの植樹を行いました。場所は伊那市・鳩吹公園。式は5月18日。田中康夫県知事、英国大使館のスチュアート・ジャック公使らが参加しました。
NAGANO-KEN: Ina City. The Green Alliance plantation took place in the Hatobuki
Park on 18 May as a part of the Nagano-ken’s project of annual tree planting
to promote greenisation of the prefecture. Embassy attendant: Stewart Jack,

長野県生坂村
生坂中学で英語の指導助手をしているジュリア・グリーフさんが英国人。これを機に村と英国の繋がりを緊密しようという趣旨。植樹は生坂中学で6月4日に行われました。
NAGANO-KEN: Ikusaka-mura. The village has an English JET teaching at Ikusaka Junior High School and would like to plant the oak tree to commemorate her being there and to promote further the village tie with UK.
長野県茅野市：蓼科高原バラクラ・イングリッシュガーデン
バラクラ・イングリッシュガーデンは1990年にオ－プンした英国風庭園。毎年数多くの訪問者を呼び、日英文化交流に貢献しています。6月20日に植樹式が行われ､英国大使館のスチュアート･ジャック公使夫妻が参加しました。
NAGANO-KEN: Barakura English Garden, Chino City. This garden has made great contribution to the promotion of UK/Japan relations since it was opened in 1990.
長野県信濃町：童話館
小林一茶の故郷として知られる信濃町は絵本の博物館、童話館の存在でも知られています。植樹式は8月25日に童話館前で行われ､大草・信濃町町長､ゴマソール英国大使､CWニコル氏らが参加して行われました。また同じ日に英国生まれの自然保護活動家、CWニコルさんが主宰するCWニコル・アファンの森財団の主催で、ウェールズの森との「姉妹森提携」の調印式も行われました。 関連ストーリー
NAGANO-KEN: Shinanomachi is well known as the birthplace of one of Japan’s great Haiku poets, Kobayashi Issa and for its unique fairly tale museum, Dowakan. The area is also known for its beautiful cosmos flowers toward late summer. More than 300,000 people visited the area to see the cosmos festival. CW Nicol, a Welsh-born naturalist, has his own “Afan Forest” in the area. The Green Alliance plantation took place on 25 August in front of the Dowakan museum.

長野県北佐久郡立科町：蓼科テディベア美術館
蓼科テディベア美術館はテディベアたちがロンドンの港から世界に向けて旅立つする場面からバッキンガム宮殿の衛兵交代の場面まで数多く揃えている。テディベアは「愛と平和と勇気」のシンボル。2002年はテディベアが生まれて100周年でもある。
NAGANO-KEN: Teddy Bear Museum, Tateshina. This museum shows a wide range of teddy bear-related displays. The year of 2002 will celebrate the 100th anniversary of teddy bear.
長野県佐久市：メアリーローズガーデン
広さ約3000坪の英国式庭園。1999年5月に開園。英国のNational Gardens SchemeやNational Trustと交流しています。
NAGANO-KEN: Mary Rose Garden, Saku City. This garden was opened in May
1999 and has exchange programmes with UK's National Garden Scheme and National

ISHIKAWA-KEN: Komatsu City. Komatsu has a sister city arrangement with Gateshead. The Green Alliance oak was planted in the Gateshead Friendship Garden. Representatives of Gateshead and Tim Morris of the British Embassy attended the ceremony.
石川県加賀市：清和保育園
子供たちの遊び場である裏山の雑木林にオークを植えて英国との友好の記念にしたい。植樹3月14日､5才児が参加して行われ、保育園の裏山に植えられました。
ISHIKAWA-KEN: Seiwa Nursery, Kaga City. One of the graduates recently graduated
from Oxford. The tree was planted on 14 March by 5-year old children.
石川県美川町
英国ボストンとの間で学校交流が行われており、2002年は町政施行350周年にあたり、これを記念する意味で日英グリーン同盟に参加。植樹式は5月24日、ボストンから親善使節団を迎えて行われ、姉妹都市関係の調印式も行われました。

日本に初めてやって来た英国人、ウィリアム・アダムズが日本初の西洋帆船を作ったのが伊東市。英国のメドウェイとも友好都市関係を結んでおり、高校生のホームステイ交流を行っている。オークは2月23日に松川湖畔に植えられました。参加者は鈴木藤一郎市長､山田恒夫伊東市国際交流会長ら約20人。
SHIZUOKA-KEN: Ito City. Ito is the town where William Adams built Japan's
very first western-style sailing ship. The town also has a friendship with
Medway under which Ito and Medway high school students do home stay exchange.
Plantation took place on 23 February on the lakeside of Matsukawa Lake.
Toichiro Suzuki, Mayor of Ito, and Tsuneo Yamada, Chairman of Ito International
Exchange Association, attended the ceremony.
静岡県富士郡芝川町：町立柚野小学校・特養老人ホーム百恵の郷
柚野小学校の生徒が｢百恵の郷｣に寄付したもので、4月24日に小林久男校長と生徒が植えました。
SHIZUOKA-KEN: Momoe Day Centre, Shibakawa-machi. They are planning to make
the Green Alliance plantation as a community event where an exchange with
local young people will take place.
静岡県富士市：老人施設･桔梗の郷
地元の子供たちと交流をはかるために小学校の生徒が参加して5月15日に植樹。
SHIZUOKA-KEN: Kikyo Day Centre, Fuji City. The Centre invited local school
children for planting the tree in the compound.
静岡県富士市：青葉台小学校
青葉台小学校では児童のエコクラブ活動や校外活動の一環として植樹を希望、5月21日、地元の湖山病院の庭園にオークを植えました。エコクラブの児童以外に本多純男院長、富士市役所都市整備部部長・中村忠之氏、英国大使館の新庄里美らが参加。
SHIZUOKA-KEN: Aobadai Primary School, Fuji City. The school children will plant the oak in a local hospital as their school activity for learning ecology and for community contribution.
静岡県富士宮市：村山浅間神社
初代駐日公使､サー・ラザフォード･オルコックが外国人として初めて富士登山をしたことにちなんで毎年７月に記念式典を行っています。グリーン同盟の植樹式は9月1日の閉山式に併せて行われ英国大使館からコリン・ロバーツ政治参事官が出席しました。
静岡県浜松市：しずおか国際園芸博覧会会場予定地
静岡県と英国のウエストミッドランド地方は1995年以来交流を続けており、日英親善と両県地域との交流とさらに促進したい。
SHIZUOKA-KEN: Hamamatsu City. Shizuoka Prefecture is planning to conclude
a friendship association with the West Midlands area in England.
愛知県名古屋市：名古屋学院中学・高校
同校ではサマースクールを通じて英国のイートン・カレッジと交流を行っている。植樹は2月22日にセーラ・ウテン英国領事、名古屋ブリティッシュ・カウンシルのエリザベス・パイク副所長ら出席して行われました。
AICHI-KEN: Nagoya Gakuin School, Nagoya City. This school has had exchange with Eton through summer schooling. The plantation took place on 22 February and was attended by Sarah Wooten, HMC (Nagoya) and Elizabeth Pike of the British Council.
愛知県知多郡美浜町
美浜町は19世紀半ばに日本人として初めて英国に渡った「音吉」の生まれ故郷。植樹式は4月2日､新しくオープンした図書館と生涯学習センターの複合施設｢心育館｣の開館式に合わせて行われ､ニール・フック英国総領事､斎藤宏一町長らが参加しました。 関連ストーリー
AICHI-KEN: Mihama-cho is the birth place of Otokichi, the very first Japanese
person who came to UK in the mid-19th century. The Green Alliance oak was
planted by Neil Hook, HMCG, and Koichi Saito, Mayor, in front of the town’s
new library.
愛知県名古屋市：名古屋港ワイルドフラワーガーデン・ブルーボネット
中部電力が計画しているガーデン（港区潮見町）。イングリッシュ・オークは4月15日にセーラ・ウテン英国領事、中部電力社長、庭園の一部をデザインした英国人のロビン・ウィリアムズらが参加して植えられました。
AICHI-KEN: Wild Flower Garden, Nagoya City. Plantation was done on 15 April in conjunction with the opening of the Wildflower Garden of Chubu Electic Power Company. Sarah Wooten, HMC (Nagoya), participated in the ceremony.
愛知県名古屋市：東山植物園内
名古屋市には英国領事館があり、名古屋市も長年ﾛﾝﾄﾞﾝに貿易相談所を設けるなどして日英交流を行ってきています。今回の植樹はこれをさらに強化する意図で行われ、4月20日、松原武久市長、セーラ・ウテン英国領事らも参加、園内の縄文杉横にオークが植えられました。
AICHI-KEN: Higashiyama Park, Nagoya City. City of Nagoya has had a long
hitorical tie with UK through their trading office in London. The city
also has British Consulate Office. The English oak was planted on 20 April
near to the Jomon Ceder section. The ceremony was attended by Takehisa
Matsubara, Mayor, and Sarah Wooten, HMC (Nagoya).
愛知県豊田市
英国ダービーシャーと姉妹都市提携しており、それを記念しての植樹。提携が行われたのが1998年11月16日であるところから、植樹も2002年11月16日､豊田市立・西山公園で行われました。
AICHI-KEN: Toyota City. The town has a sister city arrangement with Derbyshire
and planted the tree on 16 November 2002, the date when the sister city
arrangement was established in 1998.
愛知県犬山市
英国生まれのNPO、グラウンドワーク東海の主催。グラウンドワークは企業・行政・市民が一体となったコミュニティ作りを目指している組織。日英グリーン同盟には｢いま・そして・未来のこどもたちへ：一本の木から広げるグリーン・コミュニティ｣というキャッチフレーズで参加します。

岐阜県可児市：花フェスタ記念公園
英国の王立バラ協会とも交流のある花フェスタ記念公園（可児市）に植樹。日英グリーン同盟の植樹式は｢友好庭園｣の開園式とともに6月5日に行われ、三笠宮寛仁親王､同妃信子さま､梶原拓・岐阜県知事、セーラ・ウテン領事、ゴマソール大使夫人ら出席。
GIFU-KEN: Flower Festa Memorial Park, Kani City. The prefecture has Flower Festa Memorial Park in Kani City where the Green Alliance oak was planted as a prefectural project. The park has been made in conjunction with the Royal Rose Association as a “friendship garden”.
岐阜県清見村：オーク・ヴィレッジ
英国風の家具の製造を行っている工房。敷地内の遊歩道にイングリッシュオ－クを植えてシンボルとする。植樹はオークヴィレッジとドングリの会の主催で、9月7日に行われ､セーラ・ウテン英国領事らが参加しました。
GIFU-KEN: Oak Village, Kiyomi-mura. Oak Village, managed by Tadashi Inamotom
a well-known forester, makes furniture using local timber. It also has
footpath for walkers. The Green Alliance oak was planted on the trail as
a symbol of the Oak Village.
三重県北牟婁郡海山町：引本小学校
この町には森林保護機関として世界的に認知されているフォレスト・スチュワード・カウンシルの認証を日本で初めて受けた森林があり、引本小学校は地元の木で出来たユニークな体育館で知られています。植樹は3月15日に行われ、川端秀美校長、卒業生7人、この植樹をアレンジした地元在住の速水林業代表・速水亨氏、英国大使館の春海二郎広報担当官らがオークの木に土をかけました。 関連ストーリー
MIE-KEN: Hikomoto Primary School, Miyama-cho. Miyamacho is known for its
forestry industry. Hikimoto Primary School has a unique gymnasium made
with local woods. The town also has Japan's first forest certified by Forest
Steward Council, an international forest management organisation, for its
envionmentally conscious management system. Plantation took place in the
school ground of Hikimoto Primary School. Hidemi Kawabata, Headmaster,

三重県南牟婁郡紀和町
第二次世界大戦中、日本に連行されて紀和町の鉱山で労働に従事し、祖国に帰ることなく命を落とした英国人捕虜の墓を地元老人会が清掃し、お花を供えています。植樹は3月30日､紀和町板屋の英国人墓地で行われ、英国大使館のコリン・ロバーツ政治部参事官､NPO紀南国際交流会の戸地功会長､下川勝三・紀和町長らが参加。
MIE-KEN:Cemetery of British Prisoners of War, Kiwacho. British prisoners of war worked at a Kiwacho mining area during the World War II and many of them died in the camp. 1994年に付近の紀和町の英国人捕虜の墓地を訪問した英国人たちが同校を訪れたことがきっかけで交流。英国人墓地の追悼式にはブラスバンドなども参加しています。植樹式は創立記念日の5月30日に行われ､近藤明校長､セーラ・ウーテン英国領事らが参加しました。
MIE-KEN: Kinan High School, Mihamacho. This high school has maintained
friendship with families of British prisoners of war who died in the area.
The friendship has continued since the families visited the cemetery in
1994.
三重県桑名市：六華苑
英国人建築家､ジョサイア･コンドルが桑名の豪商二代諸戸清六の新居として設計したもの。地方に残るコンドルの唯一の遺作として国の重要文化財に指定されています。 植樹式は9月13日に行われ､セーラ・ウテン英国領事らが出席しました。
三重県菰野町・県民の森

SHIGA-KEN: Yanagigasaki Lakeside Park, Otsu City. The Green Alliance oak
was planted on 26 April in conjunction with the opening of the English
Rose Garden. Sir David Wright, former British Ambassador, and his wife
attended the ceremony.

KYOTO-FU: Botanical Garden, Kyoto City. Prefectural government of Kyoto
is commemorating its friendship tie with Edinburgh through plantation of
the Green Alliance oak in the Prefectural Botanical Garden in Kyoto City.
京都府精華町：京都フラワーセンター
国際交流が盛んな関西文化学術研究都市に立地しているこのセンターは京都府が設置した｢花の公園｣として知られています。京都府はスコットランドのエディンバラと姉妹都市関係を結んでいます。
KYOTO-FU:Kyoto Flower Centre, Seikacho. The flower centre is located in
the Kaisai Culture Research Area where international exchange programmes
are taking place. Kyoto Flower Centre is operated by the Kyoto Prefecture.
奈良県生駒市：花のまちづくりセンター･ふろーらむ
生駒市民が花づくりを通じて地域を越えたコミュニケーションの形成をはかることを目的に作られた場所です。
NARA-KEN: Ikoma Sanroku Park, Ikoma City. The park is the Ikoma citizen’s
outdoor leisure facility. The town has no UK tie at the moment and hopes
to establish some connection with the country by planting the oak in the
municipal park.
奈良県奈良市：奈良ホテル
奈良きっての名門ホテル。大正11年にエドワード皇太子が、昭和4年にグロスター侯が泊まったという歴史を有しています。植樹は4月1日､ホテル内｢聖ラファエル教会｣の中庭中央で、四方弘文社長らが参加、入社式に併せて行われました。
NARA-KEN: Nara Hotel, Nara City. The most prestigeous hotel in the town. Duke of Gloucester and Prince Edwards stayed in early 20th century. Plantation took place on 1 April.
和歌山県串本町：樫野崎灯台
串本町の樫野崎灯台は明治の頃に英国人エンジニア、リチャード・ブラントンが作ったもの。彼が日本で作った最初の石作り灯台とされています。植樹式はゴマソール大使､木村・県知事らが出席、4月12日に行われました。
WAKAYAMA-KEN: Kashinozaki Lighthouse, Kushimoto-cho. Richard Branton, a
British engineer, built 28 lighthouses in the mid-19th century Japan. The
Kashinozaki lighthouse is his first stone-built light house in Japan. The
oak tree was plated on 12 April, attended by Ambassador Gomersall, Governor
Kimura of Wakayama-ken.
大阪府大阪市：市立西九条小学校
日英同盟の100周年ですが、西九条小学校も2002年で創立100周年を迎えました。植樹式は2月16日､ニール・フック英国総領事らが参加して行われました。
OASKA: Nishi-kujo Primary School, Osaka City. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary by planting an English oak to commemorate 100th anniversary of Anglo/Japanese Alliance. The plantation ceremony took place 16 February. Neil Hook, HMCG, and his wife attended the ceremony.
大阪府枚方市：わらしべ園
障害児のリハビリ施設で、乗馬を通じてリハビリを行う英国の団体（Riding for the Disabled Association）との交流があり、英国の組織の総裁であるアン王女が訪問されたこともあります。植樹式は4月18日に行われ、ニール・フック総領事が参加しました。 関連ストーリー
OASKA: Hirakata City, Osaka. Warashibe-en is a rehabilitation facility
for mentally handicapped children. It provides children with rehabilitation
service through horse-riding in conjunction with Britain’s Riding for the
Disabled Association. The Princess Royal visited the facility in 1998.
She the patron of the RDA.
大阪府豊能郡：動物保護施設ARK
ARKはAnimal Refuge Kansaiの略。1990年に英国人エリザベス・オリバーさんが始めたNPO。保護されている動物には犬・猫はもちろんウサギ、ニワトリ、豚からキツネまでいる。グリーン同盟の植樹は4月29日に行われ、英国大使館政治部のガリー・レズリー書記官が参加。 関連サイト

to celebrate the completion of the building of Osaka Central Civic Hall.
大阪府吹田市：金蘭千里中学・高校
英国のイートン、ハロウ、ラグビー等の学校でサマースクールを行っているほか、ハロウ・スクールからの体験学生も受け入れている。2002年は仮植えで正式な植樹は2004年の新校舎完成記念行事として行う予定。
OASKA: Kinran Senri School, Suita City. This school sends its students to Eton, Harrow and Rugby Schools and also accept British GAP students.
大阪府岸和田市：市立浪切ホール
市立浪切ホールは市民のための文化施設。オークは同ホールの前に植えられました。
OASKA: Kishiwada City. The town will have a newly build culture centre,
Namikiri Hall, and would like to plant the oak for the citizens to enjoy.
兵庫県伊丹市立伊丹高校
伊丹高校は全日制の普通科高校ですが、1学年1学級だけ特殊学級として英語科を設けるなど英語教育に力を入れています。植樹式は4月8日の入学式に、中田榮治郎校長らが参加して合わせて行われました。
HYOGO-KEN: Itami High School, Itami City. This high school makes special
efforts on English language education and planted the oak tree on 8 April
as a commemorative event in conjunction with the entrance ceremony.
兵庫県三原町：淡路ファームパーク
淡路ファームパークには英国の湖水地方をテーマにした「イングランドの丘」(2001年4月にオープン)がある。広さ約54ヘクタールの「農業公園」で、農業文化を意識した体験・交流・学習拠点の施設となっている。植樹は4月14日に行われ英国大使館の新庄里美広報官が参加しました。
HYOGO-KEN: Awaji Farm Park, Mihara-cho. An English-style theme park. The
54-ha England Hill was opened in April 2001 and is designed as a “farm
park” where you will experience the farming way of life and learn about
the agriculture. Plantation took place on 14 April. Embassy attendant:

兵庫県宝塚市：山本新池公園
宝塚市営の「あいあいパーク」は市民の憩いの場として親しまれており、隣接の山本新池公園にはイングリッシュ・ガーデンも設営されています。植樹式は5月28日､ニール・フック総領事､正司･宝塚市長らが参加して行われました。
HYOGO-KEN: Yamamoto Shin-ike Park, Takarazuka City. The city has its municipal
park, Shin-ike Park, which includes an English garden where the Green Alliance
oak was planted.
兵庫県神戸市：六甲山上記念碑台
明治初期の日本にやって来た英国の貿易商、アーサー・ヘスケス・グルームが六甲山に別荘を作りゴルフ場を開設、友人を勧誘して娯楽的なスポーツを展開したとされています。これが日本におけるゴルフコースの第一号とされています。グリーン同盟の植樹式は7月7日のグルーム祭当日､ニール・フック総領事らが参加して行われました。
HYOGO-KEN: Rokko Hills, Kobe City. An English man, Arthur Groom, opened Japan’s very first golf course in the Rokko area in the early Meiji era. A local tourist organisation holds the annual Groom Festival to commemorate his contribution. The Green Alliance oak was planted on 7 July.

津名町はワールド・カップに参加するイングランド・チームの公式キャンプ地に指定されています。
HYOGO-KEN: Tsuna-cho. This town has been designated as the official training camp venue of the England team participating in the World Cup 2002.
兵庫県加古郡稲美町・兵庫県立東はりま水辺の里公園
自然教育の場として県民に親しまれています。英国ナショナル・トラストのシンボルマークでもあるイングリッシュオークを植えて来園者に自然保護･環境問題などを考えるきっかけにする。植樹は9月15日。
HYOGO-KEN: Higashi Harima Waterfront Park (Mizube-no-sato), Inami-machi,
Kako-gun. The park, managed by Hyogo-ken, was made right after the Kobe
Earthquake as nature observation/education facility. It will plant the
Green Alliance oak tree (symbol of the National
Trust) to remind the visitors of UK as a birthplace for nature conservation activities.
岡山県玉野市：みやま公園・イギリス庭園
みやま公園は年間110万人の来園者があり、深山イギリス庭園は英国からデザイナーを呼んで設計した本格的英国庭園です。植樹は4月29日に行われ、ニール・フック総領事夫妻が参加。
OKAYAMA-KEN: Miyama Park, Tamano City. Miyama Park receives about 1 million
visitors a year. It has an English garden designed by a British designer.
岡山県岡山市：岡山中学・高校
毎年英国の体験学生を受けているほか、ハロウ・スクールとも交流しています。5月30日に植樹式が行われ英国からの留学生も参加しました。
OKAYAMA-KEN: Okayama Junior High & High Schools. The Okayama school
sends its students to Harrow and accepts their GAP students.
岡山県倉敷市：倉敷芸術科学大学

広島県因島市：三庄町しまなみ苑・公民館
因島は英国人の捕虜収容所があったところで、植樹は3月18日、 英国大使館のサイモン・ブラウン書記官が参加、三庄町の特別養護老人ホーム｢しまなみ苑｣の前庭で行われました。(右の写真は2017年末現在）
広島県尾道市：チャーチスクール｢野の百合園｣
日英友好モニュメントを建てる会の主催。向島町の捕虜収容所で死んだ英国空軍の捕虜が一時尾道市の共同墓地に埋葬されたという経緯があります。植樹は3月18日､英国大使館政治部のサイモン・ブラウン書記官が参加。
広島県向島町：向島町運動公園
日英友好モニュメントを建てる会の主催。向島町には太平洋戦争時に英国空軍捕虜施設があり、100名中23名が若くして死去しました。日英友好モニュメントを建てる会は日英「和解」のためのモニュメントを制作、その完成に合わせて3月19日に行われました。杉原町長､新田議長､鎌田康彦・外務省欧州局事務官、英国大使館のサイモン・ブラウン政治部書記官らが参加。オークは向島町運動公園に植えられました。 関連ストーリー
HIROSHIMA-KEN: UK-Japan Friendship Monuments in Mukaijima-machi, Onomichi
City and Innoshima City. Volunteers in the three towns are building monuments
to commemorate British prisoners of war who died in these places in Hiroshima.
Green Alliance oak trees were planted on 18 March in Onomichi and Innoshima
and 19 March in Mukaijima-machi.
広島県呉市：呉海軍墓地
英国水兵の墓地が1933年に呉市内の呉海軍墓地に建立されており、イングリッシュ・オークの植樹によって日英親善をさらに呉市民にアピールする。植樹は3月21日、小雨の中で行われました。
HIROSHIMA-KEN: Kure City has a cemetery for a British sailor build in April 1933. Plantation took place in the rain on 21 March.
広島県江田島町・海上自衛隊第1術科学校
三大海軍兵学校(江田島･ｱﾅﾎﾟﾘｽ･ﾀﾞｰﾄﾏｽ)の一つとされたこの学校の校舎は英国海軍の支援を得て、英国製ﾚﾝｶﾞで作られています。植樹は4月4日､平井校長､ゴマソール大使､CWニコル氏らが参加して行われました｡
HIROSHIMA-KEN: Etajima-machi. The Navy School of Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force has a long history of friendship with Britain’s Royal Navy. The Green Alliance oak tree will be planted near the school building made of bricks that were presented by the Royal Navy aound the time of Anglo/Japanese Alliance.
広島県広島市：中央公園
2002年は広島日英協会の創立15周年、植樹は4月4日広島美術館前のは中央公園で行われ、ゴマソール大使夫妻､ニール・フック総領事夫妻、橋口収・広島日英協会会長らが出席しました。
HIROSHIMA-KEN: Hiroshima City. Hiroshima Japan British Society celebrated
on 4 April the 15th anniversary. The English oak was planted in the Central
Park in front of Hiroshima Art Museum. The ceremony was attended by Ambassador
Gomersall, Osamu Hashiguchi, Chairman of Hiroshima JBS.
広島県東野町：介護老人保健施設｢みゆき｣
町立東野小学校児童の社会活動の一環として4月12日にオークを植えました。
HIROSHIMA-KEN: Higashino Primary School, Higashino-machi. The school children
will be planting the oak tree in a nearby old people’s home as their school
activity.
広島県豊田郡大崎町
｢波紋を創る会｣という町おこし組織の主催による植樹。これを機に英国との草の根交流につなげたいというのが参加の理由。
広島県大和町
社会福祉法人｢みどりの町｣の主催。｢近代日本の建設に大きく貢献した日英同盟の記念事業｣であるグリーン同盟に参加することに意義があると考えました。植樹は11月9日､大和農園敷地内で行われました。
鳥取県北条町：北条中学校
スコットランド出身の英語指導助手が３年間にわたって指導に当たったことをきっかけに、彼女の故郷を訪問して日本の桜の木を記念植樹したことがあります。イングリッシュオークの植樹は3月18日、松本昭夫町長も参加して行われました。
TOTTORI-KEN: Hojo Junior High School, Hojo-cho. The junior high students
will remember their JET teacher by planting the oak tree in March. They
visited the JET teacher’s hometown in Scotland to plant a cherry tree.
鳥取県日野郡日野町：日野中学校
地元の介護老人保健施設｢おしどり荘｣の斡旋。日野中学は外国語指導助手（JET）として英国人を迎えることで英国がより近いものとなった。植樹は3月28日に行われ､かつて日野中学で外国語指導助手(ALT)を勤めたことがあるロイス・クリスティさんの両親が参加しました。
TOTTORI-KEN: Hino Junior High School. Hino Junior High School has received
British JETs. They have made great contribution to making UK closer to
not just students but also to the town as a whole.
鳥取県米子市
米子地区環境問題を考える企業懇話会が主催。(財)日本グラウンドワーク協会と共同で行うもので、英国生まれのNPOグラウンドワークは、企業・行政・市民が一体となったコミュニティ作りを目指している組織。日英グリーン同盟には｢いま・そして・未来のこどもたちへ：一本の木から広げるグリーン・コミュニティ｣というキャッチフレーズで参加。
TOTTORI-KEN: Yonago Groundwork, Yonago City. Yonago branch of the UK-born NPO, Groundwork Japan, will participate in the Green Alliance to create "green community" for next generation.
島根県那賀郡三隅町：町立三隅小学校
三隅小学校児童会による植樹で、場所は地元の介護老人保健施設｢アゼーリみずすみ｣の玄関前。この施設にはボランティア活動の一環として訪問しており、オークの植樹は総合学習の一環として、3月28日に行われました。英国大使館から政治部の中村啓子補佐官が参加。
SHIMANE-KEN: Misumi Primary School, Misumicho, Naga-gun. The school children will plant the Green Alliance oak as one of the community activities in Azeri Mzusumi, a nearby day centre for old people.
島根県松江市
市内の松江ウォーター･ヴィレッジ内にあるイングリッシュガーデンに植樹。
山口県豊北町：夢崎波の公園
英国人、ＲＨブラントンが設計した角島灯台は明治9年（1934年）に初点灯したものですが、未だに現役として活躍、日本の灯台50選にも選ばれたことがあります。その灯台に隣接した公園にはイングリッシュ・ガーデンもオープンの予定。植樹式は4月28日、ニール・フック総領事が出席して行われました。
YAMAGUCHIKEN: Yumesaki Park, Houhoku-cho. Houhoku-cho has Kadoshima Lighthouse
that was first lighted in 1934. The lighthouse was built by a British engineer,
Richard Branton, who built 28 lighthouses throughout Japan in the late
19th and early 20th centuries. The Kadoshima lighthouse was Branton’s last
lighthouse while his first one is in Kushimoto-cho (Wakayama-ken) who will
also participate in the Green Alliance. The Kadoshima lighthouse is still
working.
山口県山口市
日本の近代国家建設に活躍した｢長州藩の５傑｣と英国とのかかわりに思いをいたすと同時に今後の日英および山口県と英国との友好関係を一層促進することを願って維新100年記念公園に植樹。植樹式は5月5日に行われ､県から地域振興部の梅田和弘審議監らが参加、英国側からは英国貿易促進事務所のリチャード・ライル所長､山口県立大学国際交流員のロバート・クーパー氏らが参加しました。
YAMAGUCHIKEN: Meiji-ishin Park, Yamaguchi City. Yamaguchi Prefecture planted
the oak tree in the Meiji Ishin Centenary Park to commemorate the prefecture’s
connection with Britain through Choshu Five who went to Britain to learn
things for modernising Japan.
山口県下関市
下関には1906年に英国領事館が建設され、現在でも重要文化財として保存され、市民ギャラリーとしても活用されています。5月18日､エリオット･モーリー英国環境･食糧･農村地域省政務次官がオークの苗木を江島潔市長に贈呈しました。
YAMAGUCHIKEN: Shimonoseki City. Shimonoseki is one of the harbour towns
where the first British Consulates were established. The old Consulate
building is maintained as a citizen’s art gallery. It is also designated
as the city’s cultural asset.
山口県熊毛郡大和町
大和町は伊藤博文公が生まれた町。伊藤博文は明治の頃に｢長州五人組｣の一人として渡英、いろいろと学んでいます。植樹は熊野茂公・大和町長らが参加して9月2日に行われ､伊藤公記念公園に植えられました。
YAMAGUCHIKEN: Yamato-cho is the birth place of Hirobumi Ito, one of the Choshu Five.
山口県萩市
1863年に伊藤博文、井上馨らと英国に留学して鉄道の事業を学んだ井上勝の生まれたのが萩市。井上は帰国後、日本における鉄道発展の基礎を作り「鉄道の父」と呼ばれている。植樹された萩駅舎は1925年に建築されたもので、山口県最初の文化庁登録文化財。
YAMAGUCHIKEN: Hagi City. Hagi is the birthplace of Masaru Inoue went to
Britain in 1863 to study railway business. Upon return Inoue made great
contribution to the development of railway in Japan. He is called “Father
of Japanese railways”. The Green Alliance oak was planted in front of the
JR West’s Hagi Station building. The building is the very first national
asset in Yamaguchi-ken.
山口県宇部市：宗隣寺境内
宗隣寺は明治維新の時代に活躍、最後の宇部領主でもある福原芳山公（1847年～1882年）の菩提寺。福原芳山は、1867年、長州藩の命令により20歳の若さで英国へ留学したのち1874年に帰国、日本初の西洋流石炭会社を立ち上げ、宇部の炭鉱産業発展の基礎を築いた人物として知られている。植樹は2011年11月13日に山口日英協会の関係者らも立ち会って行われました。
Sorinji Temple, Ube City, Yamaguchi-ken. Sorinji is the temple of the Fukuhara family where Hozan Fukuhara (1847 - 1882) is enshrined. Hozan Fukuhara was sent by Choshu-han to Britain in 1867 for studying and came back in 1874 to found a western-style coal mining company. He is known to have established the foundation of the coal-mining industry of the Ube area. The plantation took place on 13 November 2011 and was attended by local dignitaries including representatives of the Yamaguchi Japan British Society.

香川県高松市：大手前高松中学・高校

KAGAWA-KEN: Otemae School, Takamatsu City. This school sends students to
Harrow School for summer schooling and would like to develop further communication
with British people.
香川県木田郡三木町
コマツ・ガーデン・デザイン経営のイングリッシュガーデンが三木町と英国の交流の場となることが期待されています。植樹は4月7日、ニール・フック総領事夫妻が参加して行われました。
KAGAWA-KEN: Komatsu Garden, Mikimachi. The new English garden will be opened
to the public in the spring of 2002 and the English oak will be planted
as the garden’s symbol of friendship to Britain.
徳島県徳島市：徳島大学
徳島大学は1997年以来、英国ウェールズ大学のスォンジー校と学術交流を結んでいます。これを植樹を機会にこのつながりがより緊密化することが期待されます。
TOKUSHIMA-KEN: Tokushima University, Tokushima City. This university has had friendship with University of Wales since 1997.
徳島県徳島市：四国大学
イングランドのウルバーハンプトン大学と留学提携を行っています。
TOKUSHIMA-KEN: Shikoku University, Tokushima City. The private university
has a friendship tie with Wolverhampton University.
高知県須崎市
須崎港には1867年に英国の軍艦が入港し、長崎事件について当時の英国公使ハリー・パークスと後藤象二郎が火の出るような談判をしたといういわれが残っています。植樹は3月17日､安和小学校の児童と須崎在住のショー・マイケル夫妻が参加して行われました。
KOCHI-KEN: Susaki City. Harbour of Susaki had a British military ship in 1867 in which the then British Minister, Harry Parks, had a rather fierce discussion with Shojiro Goto, a senior official of Tosa (Kochi) local government, about the Nagasaki Incident.
高知県高知市
英国生まれのNPO、グラウンドワークの高知版の主催。グラウンドワークは企業・行政・市民が一体となったコミュニティ作りを目指している組織。日英グリーン同盟には｢いま・そして・未来のこどもたちへ：一本の木から広げるグリーン・コミュニティ｣というキャッチフレーズで参加します。
KOCHI-KEN: Kochi City. Kochi branch of the UK-born NPO, Groundwork Japan,
will participate in the Green Alliance to create "green community"
for next generation.
愛媛県今治市
瀬戸内海の来島海峡に浮かぶ周囲３キロの小島に構築された｢小島砲台｣は当時の日本が日露戦争に備えて構築された要塞。その頃の日本と英国の間に結ばれた｢日英同盟｣を思い起こすとともに、日英の友好関係を再確認するために参加します。
EHIME-KEN: Imabari City. Kojima Hodai (Cannon) on the small island off
the coast of Imabari was intended as a fort to defend Japan from Russia
in the Russo-Japanese War. Imabari City would like to plant the English
oak to remind its citizens of the significance of the Anglo/Japanese Alliance.
愛媛県宇和島市
約１２０年前に英国艦船が宇和島港に寄港をしたことがあり、艦長から贈呈された英国の旗が宇和島市に保存されています。植樹は9月11日､石橋寛久･宇和島市長、英国大使館の白井正･上級科学担当官､市立結出小学校の生徒らが参加して行われ､丸山公園展望遊園地に植えられました。
EHIME-KEN: Uwajima City. The port town of Uwajima has the history of accepting
the visit by a Royal Navy ship about 120 years ago and still keeps the
Union Flag presented to the city by the ship’s captain. Brian Hitch, Minister
of the British Embassy paid official call to the city. |

福岡県福岡市・福岡市植物園
福岡日英協会の主催による植樹です。植樹式は5月22日に行われ、福岡市の美山彰生助役､日英協会の古賀誠二会長､ニール・フック総領事が参加、フック総領事は同日午後5時45分からホテル日航福岡で行われた講演会では”Britain and Kyushu “というタイトルでスピーチを行いました。
FUKUOKA-KEN: Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Botanical Garden. Fukuoka Japan British Society will plant the tree in the Fukuoka Botanical Garden.
福岡県筑紫野市：県立福岡盲学校
福岡グラウンドワークの主催による植樹。生徒を中心にしてハーブガーデンを作ることになっており、イングリッシュオークもその中に植えられます。グラウンドワークは英国生まれのNPOの日本版。企業・行政・市民が一体となったコミュニティ作りを目指している組織。日英グリーン同盟には｢いま・そして・未来のこどもたちへ：一本の木から広げるグリーン・コミュニティ｣というキャッチフレーズで参加します。
FUKUOKA-KEN: Chikushino City, Fukuoka School for the Blind. This is a project
by the Fukuoka Groundwork. Students of Fukuoka School for the Blind built
a herb garden in which a Green Alliance was planted.
長崎県長崎市：グラバー園
長崎市は1854年に日本初の英国領事館が開設されて以来、英国とは歴史・文化の面で長い友好関係にあります。英国商人、グラバーは長崎の国際交流のシンボルとなっています。
NAGASAKI-KEN: Glover Garden, Nagasaki City. City of Nagasaki has had a
long history of friendship with UK since the very first British Consulate
was opened in the town in 1854. The Green Alliance oak will be planted
in the famous Glover Garden to commemorate Thomas Glover, a British merchant
in the mid-19th century.
長崎県平戸市
1600年、英国人として初めて日本にやって来たウィリアム・アダムズ（三浦按針）が到着したのが平戸。植樹はこれを記念して崎方公園内の｢三浦按針墓地｣付近え5月26日に行われました。
NAGASAKI-KEN: Hirado City. William Adams arrived in the harbour town of Hirado in 1600. He is said to be the very first British person to arrive in this country. The English oak will be planted in a municipal park where they have Adams’ cemetery.
佐賀県上峰町・上峰中学校
福岡グラウンドワークの主催による植樹。3月14日、上峰中学の3年生が総合学習の一環として作ったイングリッシュガーデンに植えられました。大川紀男町長、ニール・フック英国総領事らも参加。
SAGA-KEN: Kamimine Junior High School, Kamimine-machi. This is another
project by Groundwork Fukuoka in which the junior high students will make
a small park using a vacant lot made available from the town.
佐賀県佐賀市：致遠館高校
修学旅行の目的地が英国。イングリッシュ・オークの植樹を通じて英国への関心をより深めることが目的。植樹式は3月16日に行われ、英国貿易促進事務所のリチャード・ライル所長も参加。
SAGA-KEN: Chienkan High School, Saga City. This school has chosen UK as
a destination for school trip and would like to deepen students’ interests
in the country by planting the oak.
宮崎県えびの市：国際交流センター
英国出身の国際交流員を通じて英国との友好関係をさらに深めたいというのが参加の理由。3月14日にオークが植えられました。
MIYAZAKI-KEN: Ebino City. The Green Alliance oak will be planted in the compound of the International Exchange Centre to promote friendship tie with the UK.
宮崎県東諸県郡高岡町
高岡町は東京慈恵医大や日本初の看護学校を創立したことで知られる医者、高木兼寛（1849年生）の生まれ故郷。高木兼寛は英国のセント・トーマス病院に留学して医学を修めた。脚気の食事による予防法を確立し、世界的なビタミンの先駆者としても知られる。植樹式は4月21日。
MIYAZAKI-KEN: Takaoka-machi. Takaoka-machi is the birthplace of Dr Kanehiro
Takagi, the founder of Tokyo Jikei Medical School. He is also known to
have founded Japan’s first nursery school. Born in 1849, Dr Takagi studied
medicine in St Thomas Hospital in London. The town commemorates Dr Takagi’s
medical contribution by way of Dr Takagi Award for Children. The plantation
will involve Miyazaki Japan British Society.
宮崎県日南市：国際交流センター小村記念館
日南市は日英同盟締結時の外務大臣、小村寿太郎侯出生の地として知られ、現在でも国際交流センター小村記念館があります。植樹式は6月29日小村記念館で行われ､北川昌典･日南市長､英国大使館のクリス・トロット一等書記官および地元の中学生らが参加しました。
MIYAZAKI-KEN: Nichinan City is known to be the birthplace of Jutaro Komura,
Japan’s Foreign Minister at the time of Anglo/Japanese Alliance. The town
has the Komura Museum to commemorate his contribution to Japan’s internationalisation.
大分県大分郡野津原町：県民の森・英国風庭園
大分県では、2000年4月に地球環境保全を目的としたアジア・グリーン・ネットワーク宣言を提唱してアジア5カ国と緑の交流を行っている。オークは4月25日、野津原町の「県民の森」の英国庭園に植えられました。
OITA-KEN:English Garden, Tsuhara-machi. Oita-ken launched “Asian Green Network” in April 2000 and the UK-Japan Green Alliance has a similar objective of promoting grass roots exchange through the theme of green. The oak tree was planted in the English Garden in the Prefecture’s Forest (Kenmin no mori) in Notsuhara-machi.
熊本県熊本市：熊本高校
熊本高校では建学の精神を同じくする英国のイートン・カレッジとの交流を続けており、オークの木を植えることで日英関係をさらに身近に発展させたい。植樹は2月17日に在校生、卒業生ら約40人が参加して行われました。
KUMAMOTO-KEN: Kumamoto High School: Kumamoto City. The prestigeus Kumamoto
High School has had friendship relations with Eton College and send and
receive respective students. Plantation of English oak will promote further
friendship with the British school.
熊本県植木町
平成4年から海外への青年派遣などを通じて国際交流を行っています。グリーン同盟のオークは､3月24日に高齢者福祉センター付近の公園に､3月6日に住民の手作りによる花公園｢小町フラワーランド｣にそれぞれ植えられました。
KUMAMOTO-KEN: Ueki-machi. The town has been promoting international friendship
by sending young people abroad and accepting people from foreign countries.
The oak will be planted in a park near a day centre in conjunction with
the 10th anniversary of its internationalisation project.
熊本県大津町
英国から大学聖歌隊を招いてコンサートを行ったりして交流を行っている。町の中心に英国の木を植えて友好のシンボルとする。3月16日に植えられました。
KUMAMOTO-KEN: Otsu-machi. The town regularly invites British citizens including
a college choir and would like to plant the oak tree in the town square
as a symbol of the future friendship.
熊本県熊本市：文徳学園中学校
3年生が毎年英国のハロウ・スクールに研修旅行を行う。植樹式は3月22日に行われました。
KUMAMOTO-KEN: Buntoku Junior High School, Kumamoto City. The school sends
its students to Harrow School.
熊本県牛深市：牛深高校
2002年に創立10周年を迎える熊本日英協会の斡旋による植樹です。植樹式は3月22日、熊本日英協会の代表らが出席して行われました。
KUMAMOTO-KEN: Ushibuka High School, Ushibuka City. The Green Alliance oak was donated to the high school by Kumamoto Japan British Society.
熊本県菊池郡西合志町
人口約28000．年々英国人も含めて外国人の人口が増えており、様々な人々にとって親しまれ、住み良い町にしたい。植樹は3月31日、ふれあい健康センター｢ユーパレス弁天｣前で行われ、町主催の早春ハイキング大会の参加者100人が手製の竹スコップで植えました。
KUMAMOTO-KEN: Nisshigoushi-machi. A small town with the population of some
28,000 has an increasing number of foreign residents including British.
The town would like to plant the English oak as a symbol of its efforts
to make it good place for everybody to live.
熊本県熊本市：リデル・ライト記念老人ホーム
日本におけるハンセン病患者救済活動の草分けの一人である英国人宣教師、ハンナ・リデルが熊本に回春病院を設立してから107年目にあたるのが2002年。2002年はまたリデル没後70年。植樹は4月3日に行われ、リデル・ライト両女史顕彰会の小笠原会長､ニール・フック英国総領事､黒田武一郎・熊本県副知事､三角保之・熊本市長､熊本日英協会会長らが参加。

a British missionary, was one of the pioneers of saving leprosy patients
in Japan. 2002 waas the 107th year since Hannah built Kaishun Hospital
to treat the patients and also 70th year since her death. Wright is Hannah’s
sister also involved in helping leprosy patients.
熊本県宇土市
英国の海藻学者キャサリン・メアリー・ドゥルー・ベーカー女史（1957年没）は日本における海苔の養殖技術の発展に大きな貢献をしました。これを顕彰して宇土市には海苔漁民の手で建てられた顕彰碑があります。植樹式は4月14日のドゥルー祭の一環として行われ、住吉自然公園に植えられました。
KUMAMOTO-KEN: Uto City. Dr Kathleen Mary Drew Baker, a British scientist, made great contribution to the development of Japanese seaweed industry by discovering the life cycle of the laver. Although she had never been to Japan before she died in 1957 the seaweed farmers of Uto City built a statue to commemorate her contribution. Drew Festival takes place on 14 April as an annual event.
熊本県天水町
天水町は夏目漱石の「草枕」誕生の地。漱石が留学した英国からのオークを育てることで町作りの一環としたい。植樹は4月27日､吉田勝也町長、森本和侍町議会議長、英国大使館商務部のサイモン・ウッド氏と奥さんのピッパ・ウッドさんらが参加して行われました。
KUMAMOTO-KEN: Tensui-machi. This town is the birth place of a famous novel written by Natsume Soseki who studied in Britain in Meiji era. The oak will be one of centre attractions for future.

この町では町民を始め教職員や町職員を英国に派遣する事業を行っています。
鹿児島鹿児島市
鹿児島日英協会の主催で、鹿児島大学医学部に植樹。同大医学部は1870年に英国人医師、ウィリアム・ウィリスが開設した鹿児島医学校が礎。植樹式は3月19日、鹿児島日英協会の尾辻義人会長らが出席して行われました。
KAGOSHIMA-KEN: Kagoshima City. Plantation was done in the compound of Kagoshima
Medican School by Kagoshima Japan British Society as a tribute to William
Willis, a British doctor who opened the school more than 100 years ago.
鹿児島指宿市
地元有志からなる自然保護活動グループ｢縄文の森を作ろう会｣が主催する植樹。これを機会に多くの巨木が残っている指宿と英国との交流のきっかけにする。植樹は指宿市内のセントラル・パーク指宿で5月11日に行われ、田原迫要・指宿市長、小園成美・指宿市議会議員、英国大使館のクリス・トロット一等書記官らが参加しました。 関連ストーリー

鹿児島串木野市：羽島小学校
串木野市羽島は1865年に薩摩藩留学生19人が、西洋の先端技術を学ぼうと渡英した｢近代日本黎明の地｣と言われており、現在でも市職員を留学生として派遣しています。植樹式は8月24日に行われ､冨永茂穂・串木野市長、英国大使館のクリス・トロット一等書記官らが参加しました。
鹿児島南種子町:県立南種子高校
南種子町には約100年前に英国の帆船ドラメルタン号が漂着､これを助けた地元民に乗組員から食糧として船内で飼育されていた鶏が贈られたという歴史があります。その鶏は｢インギー鶏｣と名づけられて今でも大切に飼育されています。植樹は9月20日、英国大使館政治部のクリス・トロット一等書記官が出席しました。
沖縄県北谷町
沖縄サミットの際にブレア首相が北谷小学校を訪問して以来、英国との交流を続けています。気候の関係で北谷町にはシラカシの木が贈られました。
OKINAWA-KEN: Chatancho. The town has had friendship with UK since Prime
Minister Blair visited Chatancho Primary School in 2000. A Shirakashi tree
(rather than English oak) was planted as Okinawa’s tropical climate makes
it difficult for English oak to grow.
